I've had to replace my DRL bulb twice in 9 months. Is this a common problem?

Well then disconnect the damn thing!
It's an omen to disable them. Relay 173.

High Temperature Halogen light bulb running at all times = bad combination for extended life expectency of your bulbs.
Try disabling them, it really does help. Pull relay 173
