Hey guys, quick question here.

I have a 2012 Passat SE and sometimes when I'm braking softly downshifting to first gear feels a little rough, but if I brake much harder it happens much less frequently. Is this something normal or should I get something checked out?

Which transmission? Slushbox or dsg? Are you downshifting or are you letting the trans do it?

If your trans is a 6-speed Tiptronic it is factory calibrated to shift up into the taller, more economical gears, much more quickly than in the past. This was done to get the most fuel mileage out of the combination. But what this does is it also causes the transmission to downshift rather oddly, which is exactly what you describe.

All this can be adjusted out by a good Tech, but he/she must have patience, because it will take some time and time is money...you first go towards the original setting then back, and test drive it, and back, several tines if needed....Shop time @ $100 per hour adds up real quickly...
