Back in the day, you could get colored car wax with the "chipstick" to cover minor scratches and even greatly minimize major gouges, (at least until the next car wash :p), but such products are all but extinct now. All you ever see these days in auto stores is white or black wax. I have Urban Gray. Would black-colored wax make gray paint look better, even for a temporary time?

I would say probably not. I'm guessing that those color waxes probably worked a lot better on older cars with single stage paintjobs, but just about everything now has a clearcoat on top. (That's just my theory so someone correct me if I'm wrong). My suggestion would be to buy a compound and polish your paint to remove swirls and other micro-imperfections, and use something like Dr. Colorchip (look it up) for any paint chips, scratches, etc.
