I was showing off my nice new Canon S400 on Easter, and explaining that since my computer has a CF reader built-in, it's easier to load pictures by removing/inserting the card than it is to hook it up with USB.

My bro-in-law said that frequent removal/insertion of cards will damage the pins and I should use the cable instead.

Isn't the interface made for this? Anyone ever experience this?

You should respond with "isn't frequent removal/insertion of the cable going to damage the pins there?"

I pull the card out of mine to use.

I remember way back when when the CF cards first starting coming out I heard ppl saying things like "Those won't catch on, they're too sensitive to ESD".....Haven't heard any issues with ppl removing / touching them.

As for wear and tear....like VdubTX said, that goes with everything pretty much....but you'll probably get a lot (and I mean a LOT) of use out of the card before that happens.
