All.

Im wondering if you can shed any light on the following problem i have !

Car is a 2001 V6 4-Motion UK Spec

About 3 weeks ago whilst changing the stock air filter i pulled the wire from pin four from the plug that goes into the AFM.

Anyway the car still runs but is very lumpy on cold start up.

At the weekend i got a new plug and rewired all of the four pins onto the new plug and plugged it back in.

The end result was that it was even worse !

When i disconnected pin 4 the idle was smooth when the engine is warm but still lumpy when cold.

I dont have access to the VAG com software so have no codes to give!

Does anyone know what pin 4 does / controls.

Please see pic below that shows the wiring.

I dont wish to sound obvious but i take it the socket in the A.F.M is undamaged? Also I ran into a similar problem some time ago after a filter change. somehow the Sensing wire bust in the intake. (although not on you type of car). It could be that after re-starting the E.C.U got upset and needs a reset. hope this is of help.

Jeffegan/Sivnix - Thanks for your replies

Jeffegan - I have checked the wiring and it all looks ok but will have another look at it ? How would i perform an ECU reset

SivNiz - Engine code i believe is ATQ (Just checked the list on the forums here)

Does anyone know what the various wires/pins control ?

Thanks

If the E.C.U has got upset it may have gone into a sort of "limp home mode" when it was getting wrong/broken inputs from the A.F.M..The wiring fault may be cured but it would not be unknown for the E.C.U to need logged faults cleared. If you,re happy that the A.F.M is good you will probably need to use a code reader with a reset facility..probably best to entrust this bit to a tuning specialist or of course V.W. (groan)...best of luck.
