I was at the dealer today getting some things done for my 60K service and a state inspection...

Well, they failed my car for a FOG LIGHT burnt out...ridiculous...not only are they not on half the cars sold, but where does it say you are required to use them? At 1st I said I'd do it myself instead of paying their ridiculous price for one, but then I realized that I live over 30 miles away so I went ahead and let them screw me....

Anyone in VA or any other inspection states that knows the rules? I wasn't happy being failed for a fog light....I was planning on changing it anyways, but having to go back their to get it reinspected for that is absurd....

Another thing, I was seriously looking at a 2004 Passat TDI GLS while I was there....the salesman came to me later while I was waiting for 2 HOURS and said some remark about trading in my car...I told him his service department took a sale away from him!

I had a car rejected a few years back for the same thing - fog light was out. Seems pretty sad. What'd happen to some goofball with a rack of lights on top of his jacked up pickup truck if one of THOSE was out?

State inspections usually require all ORIGINAL lighting to work.

That means fog lights, if it came with them.

I'm darn glad Illinois doesn't do those goofy inspections, but when I lived in SC I sure as heck checked out my own car before hand to make sure they couldn't find anything to "fix". Maybe you chalk this one up as a lesson learned.......

I don't really understand your problem with the dealer. They are just following state regs.

Well, even without the inspection thing i still have a problem....their service sucks....waiting 2 to 3 hours regularly for an OIL CHANGE with an appointment....and still the price for the bulb and installation was too high...

I guess I just have a problem with the state regs....state inspections are only around to make auto repair shops more money...if they were really necessary, they'd be more prevalent...

go to the local parts store an relace it drive back and get it inspected.
