Not sure if this is the correct section, but I'm looking for someone to install new pads (mintex red box) and 4 new rotors (meyle). Ordered from autohaus today, so should arrive in 5 days or so. If anyone can help out at a fair $ rate, would be greatly appreciated. Having trouble finding someone local, all shops are either shady or way overcharging me. I can bring the car wherever ('05 Passat 1.8T auto).

I live in Annandale VA. Inspection expired end of Feb but didn't have the cash til recently. AND I got ticketed going onto the highway this morning, so gotta get it done soon. As long as I get the inspection I wont have to pay a fine though, so not too upset over it.:bowdown::bowdown:

I just did mine Saturday, and I've never done VW brakes before. I followed the link bluesilk posted, and completed all four brakes in less than 2hrs. So if you have tools, don't be scared. Sorry your too far for me to help. I'm in Cleveland.

it is relative easy and the write-up is clear

get a "caliper retractor set" for our rear caliper will make life much easier.
to add to this post, regarding the caliper tool. you can "rent" these from autozone, for free. they will let you return it for a full refund once complete with the work. you absolutely want to have this tool as it is a matter of making it a quick and easy job into a longer, much more annoying one.

and note that while you can use a simple C-clamp on the front, the caliper tool will press that one in as well. :salute:

thanks for the feedback guys! yes, i am not a "real man" yet as I dont have much in form of tools. I'm a computer hardware guy, so most of my tools are for computer parts :) im starting to get into working on my passat by myself, but def am not at the point where I can handle this on my own! will check the other post.

Had Vag.guy replace my front and rear pads/rotors. the guy knows his stuff, didn't mind me hovering over his shoulder, and gave me a pretty good classroom session on brakes (and various other things). very good dood, definitely can vouch that he's top notch - my brakes are quiet, smooth, and am very pleased. thanks again my new vw uncle heha.

welp after having the shop replace that one ignition coil/sp plugs and you doing the brakes and rotating the tires the car seems like he's in a much better mood. definitely smoother, but the vibration is still pretty obvious... but i'd say less pronounced.

was going to get a couple mounts and try a DIY after i get a floor jack and some stands.

Dan's good people. I'm glad you found the help and learned how to do it! I did my first brake job in his garage as well:

but he was off marinating his liver:

and my helpers included a guy that had to duct tape his jeans after they split:

Good times.....good times....
