Dashcam wiring via moonroof harness?

’00 Passat 4Mo wagon

I’ve been using my dashcam wired to the ashtray 12V socket, which is less than ideal since that is not switched to the ignition.

Using a 12 to 5V step down power supply, some folks have wired their GPS or dashcam to the fuse box at the driver’s door, while others have used bolt connection 75x under the dash. Others have wired a relay to the cigarette lighter. I mount the dashcam adjacent to the rear view mirror, so the closest power source would be the harness in the switch compartment for the moonroof.

Would there be any issues using power from the moonroof harness, instead of the other options? I like the convenience of this option, but also want to minimize the risk of damage to other electronics.

The heavy (2.5mm[SUP]2[/SUP]) red (+) and brown (gnd) wires are the Sunroof power, fed from fuse 30, 20 amps. It's always on, not switched, but no harm in getting power from there.

The two thin wires (0.5 mm[SUP]2[/SUP]) are control wires to the CCM.

Thanks.

Since the rotary dial does not work with ignition off, I assumed the power was switched [without having tested with DMM]. So, the CCM control is, among other things, responsible for controlling if the rotary dial is active? I should have known the moonroof can also be closed with ignition off by using the door lock.

This means I want to use another power source, so the dashcam turns off automatically.
