Hello!

I would like to buy a B5.5 Tailgate and install it in my B5 but I haven't found any good source of information.

Almost all other B5 Tailgates I've found on scrapyards have rust around the window but the B5.5's seems to hold much better.

Have any of the board members done it before?

The B5.5 gate has a electric "touch" handle while the B5 has a mechanical one.

Would it be possible to move the B5 lock mechanism to the B5.5?

As I recall, the tail light housings and other things would cause minor fitting issues if trying to fit a new tailgate/hatch on an older Passat.

You can bet VW designed the facelift Passat's tailgate ass'y such that fitting it to an early Passat would be much more than a "bolt on" swap.
