I got my homemade VAG-COM working and was wondering if anyone has tried to use the LPT (printer) port for the connection instead of the Serial port. I have a really long cable that plugs into the LPT port and come to a serial connection at the other end that the VAG will connect to. TIA

I doubt that's a parallel cable; it's probably a serial cable with a wide connector on one side. Lots of older computers have one narrow and one wide serial port.

No, you can't just plug your vag-com into an lpt port and expect it to work.

You also might want to be careful with cable lengths, too. Not that the parallel cable would work anyway, but iirc, the safest maximum length of a serial cable is something like 10 feet (at least using RS232 -- newer standards have better tolerances and distances).
