I guess this question is aimed at B5ers here in England/ Europe. Has anyone got a chipped diesel, and did it make a big difference to the performance? I need the economy but the lack of performance is getting to me a little.
My partners company vehicle is a 130 Tdi Bora (Jetta) and that hauls nicely (think she'd miss the engine?) I was outgunned by a Mini Metro the other day!

Re: Chipping Diesels (Steve TDI)

Hey Steve, nobody wants you to be outgunned by a Mini Metro!

Kenny uses a Wett chip, and they also do chips for TDIs. http://www.wetterauer.com

It might come down to price and availability for you....

Re: Chipping Diesels (Steve TDI)

hi steve there ere many companys here in england. just go to W.H smith and get a copy of performance VW and browse till your hearts content tons of ads for diesell tuners . most companies offer a module that simply plugs in between engine bay wire loom and engine loom very easy to fit and remove takes two mins. adds plenty of power and massive torque.

You can also check the TDI section on VWVortex.com. Lot's of stuff on TDI chips there.

Re: Chipping Diesels (Berliner)

What marky is reffering to is a tuning box. It alters the signal form the MAF and ECU to the fuel pump, and injects more fuel at a given value (based on injection timing and fuel temperature). It takes the signals, and add or decreases resistance to trick the fuel pump. Unfortunately, I found these tuning boxes, while providing strong power, also killed my fuel economy - and it smoked like a chimney!
A chip, on the other hand, will increase power but does so in a different manner: it will alter the ECU's control of the VNT turbo, and alter the fueling of the engine. I was able to maintain my TDI's fuel economy and have awesome power. I do have an UPSolute chip, and although Wetterauer makes one, the UP was cheaper.

i've got a Hoppa and have seen 140 bhp, dead easy to fit and works like a dream ~ shed loads of torque and better economy too, now have a Sorg chip and can't complain at all ~ up hill it'll take most things on the motorway!
Have had a Novaracer follow me to the office because he couldn't understand why I kicked his ar$e!!
