Hi all,

My mechanic recommends changing the timing belt. Mileage is low at around 53,000 but according to the mechanic, it is old and the manual says it is recommended changing the timing belt every 80 months or 75,000 miles whichever is earlier. Do you have any opinion on when to change the timing belt?

I have passat wagon 2003 with mileage of 53,000.

Thanks.

Yes, go ahead and change it. I have an 05 Golf (bought 10/2004) that has the original belt and 62K. If it were an interference engine like my Passat has, I would have changed it 3-4 years ago.
