I own a 2003 Passat 1.8t. I just recently bought this car from a dealer. I've only put 400 miles on it and the check engine light has already come on. This is just a little infruriating. Is there a way to check the history of the CEL? When it has come on in the past, when it has been reset, etc.? I think there may have been a problem with this car that they didn't disclose and I'd like to go back to this dealer with a little ammunition. Help Please!!!!

If you can get some service history, then yes. Once the codes are cleared in the ECM, all that data is lost.

Is there a way to get the service history if I don't know the previous owner? The carfax states standard service check, but does not go into detail.
