99 v6 standard

left my car in front of my dorm with flashers on in gear and forgot to park it. it was towed and i get a call from the tow place that the driver backed a tow truck in to my car when it was on the flat bed. he offerd to pay for the bumper to be fixed at a body shop and didn't charge for the tow.

when I picked it up the battery could not hold a charge. so i immedaiatly stalled the car backing up. They jumped it for me.

now gas pedal is like an on/off switch and the car has no balls. bucks at lower speeds. got a new battery. got it scaned at autozone p1545

the guy at auto zone thought that the car being drag on too the flat bed in gear did somthing bad to the tranny and it does not know what gear it's in. is there any validity to this?

called the tow place and he said he would ask a shop about the code and also set an appointment. and that if towing the car caused the problem he would pay

i tried the key in the ignition open door trick and i didn't work, i might have done it wrong.

i am hoping that it was the dead battery causing the problem and not the in gear dragging.

oh it smells funny like somthings burnt

17953/P1545/005445 - Throttle Valve Controller: Malfunction
Possible Symptoms

* Increased Idle Speed
* Bucking at Load Change

Possible Causes

* Throttle Body dirty
* Throttle Body Wiring faulty
* Throttle Body faulty

Possible Solutions

* Clean Throttle Body
* Check Throttle Body Wiring
* Check Throttle Body

Special Notes

* Use Meas. Blocks & Basic Setting for testing

If you can find someone with VAG-COM do a Throttle Body Adaption from the VAG software. By "standard" I'm assuming you have a manual transmission.

You need to put the keys in your start postion for 5 mins and that will allow your car to get a TBA. This happened when the battery died and cleared your setting in the ECU.

so i tried the TBA with a vag com cable some one on B5one let me borrow because there daughter was visiting my school today. and im thinking that its gonna work out.

i followed these instructions

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/throttlebody.html

i did the second one which worked for some one on votex with the same year engine transmission. no sound from the tb and the #sdidn't change. now the car won't start at all.

i didn't count to 30, but i waited a while and tried it twice.

i think driving it and trying to start it has effed up the TB. is there somthing i'm missing before i have it towed to the dealer

i should have scaned for codes again but i forgot

Sounds like you didn't do the TBA correctly...numbers should have changed and you should have heard a noise...these things have to happen if you did the TBA. Never once do you do a TBA and these don't happen.

There are certain test conditions that must be met before doing a TBA:
*No DTC's in the Engine Controller <<<(you didn't check & clear)
*Battery voltage at least 11.5 V
*Throttle must be at idling position (keep your foot off the gas pedal)
*Throttle body part must not be dirty (carbonized).
*Coolant temperature must be between 5 and 95C

Is your car DBW or DBC? If it is Drive By Cable, you need to do the first method, not the second method.

His is drive by wire...so I think its the 098 block that needs adjusted.

My 99 1.8t is DBC. I don't know if that same year V6 is DBC or DBW. Either way, the ECM needs to be cleared first.
No I am sorry....to early the model is a DBC....they were all until the 2001 mid model. My bad didn't post the right one. Either way if he can't get the cable again...he can pull the ECU out for 10 mins or touch the battery termals together (while off the battery). But what I find odd is he can't do the key in the service postion for 4 mins...the door doesn't have to be open. Just leave it in that spot for 4 mins and it will work.
