I read the thread on shops in ontario but are there any companies like ecs tuning and such on our side of the border? would prefer not to pay for across the border shipping and especially customs. Thanks

Depends on what your looking for. I've found a good amount of things that I've needed over the years at the stealership, The Source for VW (Finch and Weston), and Precision Tuning Motorsports (Keele and Langstaff). If you need something more specific shoot me a PM and I may be able to help.
