i just got a head from a salvage place and they gave me the head bolts and they look to be in good condition..not that i would know what bad condition would look like...but can i reuse them?

This is a Bentley question. If they are "torque to yield" bolts, then no. If they are not, then yes.

I have faced this on my Rabbit - it uses stretch bolts, so I have to get a new set every time the head comes off.

how dp i know

how do i find that out? its the newer bolts with the 6 teeth not the star thing.does torque to yield mean if i torque them again they may break?

Its possible that they may. When you torque a bolt, the threads stretch and expand. TTY (torque-to-yeild) is another term for one-time use. Being that the head has tremendous pressures, I would play it safe and replace them, expecially after the rebuild you are doing. Doesnt hurt to do it right the 1st time.
