VW Passat B5.5, 2001, 1.8T AWT

The following DTc appears in certain occasions:

1 Fault Found:
16396 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Advance Setpoint not Reached
P0012 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0000

from engine controller
Address 01: Engine
Controller: 4B0 906 018 CG
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT G 0001
Coding: 11501
Shop #: WSC 05311

After reset and normal driving it appears again. Checking is done
once per month. Three times has been observed within a period of six
months. All connectors, wire-harnesses have been checked and no problem has been observed.

Camshaft adjustment Valve has been checked (as per Bentley
suggestions) and no problem has been observed.

Any ideas/experience is welcomed.

"Sharky" (our resident VW tech) has posted that camshaft sensor problems are sometimes due to an aftermarket oil filter. No, he can't explain why... I can't either. It doesn't make sense, but, if nothing else works, try switching to a VW oil filter.
