It’s also called a shutter wheel. There’s a thread I found for a 04’ Jetta 1.8t that’s states the wheel/ring is “keyed” only allowing it to be installed one specific way. Just wanted to make sure before making an attempt as to not screw anything up.

Yes, you just need to remove the sensor and wheel. You need a seal puller that can fit in there, but it is an easy job overall. Once apart, you will see how the wheel is keyed to the cam. Make certain you put it back the same way. I've seen them put 180 out a couple of times but only on the rear sensor of the V6.

I sometimes wonder how many times this has caused issues with people who take out their cams and then have problems with the engine afterwards that they didn't have before.
