I’am interested in purchasing a 2001.5 GLX passat with 147,000 miles.

the guy who I’m buy it from wants $8,800..do you guys think that’s good

price for the car? How reliable are Passat’s with lots of miles?

the car is in good condition clean in the inside and outside…

what do you guys think?:nervous:

That is a bit lower than might be expected. However, you should be able to deal lower, probably not a lot of depamdn for a 150k passat.
The V6 is a pretty reliable motor, however, I'd still want to see complete or nearly complete records. Car should have had 2 timing belt (this includes water pump, tensioner, and a few other things) changes. It needs to be done every 60-70Kmi, so if its coming due, factor that price ($800-1000 incl labor) into the cost. Also, get a full inspection from a good VW/Audi specialist. i'd worry most about excessive oil loss (a little is to be expected for a high mile 6) and and head seal issues. Its a strong moto, so I'd say it has lots of life left. Also, makes sure all the electronics work.
Honesly, I think you can find a much lower milage example for a similar price, esp if you look at the older style (98-01).

the guy has all the maintenance records of what he has done to the passat

he recently changed the catalytic converter on the car and it passed smog the car doesn’t leak oil….

I did a carfax report…and it came out good… my only worry is how reliable the

passat is....

Reliablity on the v6 passat is fine.
That said, very few of them are past 150k because they are so new, so its hard to tell. German cars tend to have good durability and longevity.
However, no 150k car is going to be as reliable as a 40k one.

With that many miles he's $2800 too high unless the car is in excellent condition and needs absolutely no major maintenance for the next 50k to 75k miles. As other's have said find out when the TB, tensioner, rollers, water pump etc was done. Has the ATF and filter been changed recently. How about CV boots, control arms, tie rods, cam tensioners, ABS module, instrument cluster - all can be problematic? Does everything work on the car? Probably should have it scanned with VAG-COM for faults with the various control modules? With that many miles if he trades, the dealer won't want the car on his lot and it will probably go to auction. The seller will be lucky to get $6000 on a trade.
