When I checked the oil yesterday, the part on the top of the dipstick tube broke off. It stuck to the dipstick! Anyone know if you can replace the plastic part on the top of the dipstick tube without replacing the whole tube? How hard it is to replace the whole tube? Any idea if I will loose oil thru the top of the tube if I don't fix it?

Rip the orange piece off and replace it. Don't drop any plastic shards in the tube.
It's about a $1.64 part.

What you've experienced is not at all uncommon and flipsauce explained the correct repair procedure. I think the reason you cannot just leave off the plastic part is that without it, you will not be able to accurately measure your oil level.

when mine broke, the dealer did it when they were changing the oil. not only did they replace the part, they gave me coupon for a free oil change (bachman in louisville)! :thumbup:
