On my new to me 2000 Passat GLS 2L with 105,000 kms, the closure for the centre armrest list has snapped. Can I buy this part online? What's it's official name and part #? Many thanks.

I'm really enjoying this car, and it's a great replacement for my old 2000 Saturn SL2 (350,000 kms) that died. The premium fuel is a bit of a expense, especially on my first tank where I burned through 60L in 540 km, but I've been using the fuel burn indicator to manage my acceleration and overall driving, and now average under 9 L/100km on my commute. This second tank is now only 5/8 gone and I've traveled almost 400 km.

Lookup AARodriguez Corp on Google.

He makes a multitude of armrest replacement parts (including the rear hinge) that are made of a higher quality plastic that wont become brittle with age and break. You can watch Youtube videos of him literally smashing some components with a hammer and nothing happens. The latch part cost $15 + shipping. He has DIY videos for replacing the part, though, its the same as if you were getting OEM for the latch. I can attest to the fact that these are solid replacement parts, I put them in my exs Jetta and they operate like the OE parts.

Shouldnt ever have to replace it again in the cars lifetime, unless youre really aggressive with your arm rest...
