I know and have heard how the MkiV go through rear pads like crazy, 2 to 3 sets of rears before the front, but do passat have that same issue. I currently hafta replace my rear pads, and my fronts are still good? Which seems very opposite to me because we're FWD?

"Brake" pads in the Passat wear out in the rear first since VW gives the rear brakes more bias compared to other cars. That, combined with a smaller pad size compared to the fronts.

The fronts SHOULD still be good, but get them checked to make sure.

Being FWD makes no difference in pad wear.

YES! Same size pads and rotors if I am not mistaken in the rear. Slightly heavier car. Basically, the rear pads are just too soft or small for the car.
