The Jetta manual will not help much with the Passat. They are very different cars and only shared the 1.8T.

I got a used 1998-2005 Bentley Passat manual on eBay a few years ago for around $60 including shipping, and it's been well worth it for that price. Older versions tend to be a lot less expensive. You can set up an alert, and snag one when someone lists at a lower price.
