Hi everyone hope someone can help me re my issue.
Ive been looking on the forum and I cant find anything
similar but if it is there I do Appologise.

I have a 2001 diesel Passat in UK

Basically about six months ago the passenger window
stoped working and I took to garage and the guy said the
door mech had gone and needed a new one he replaced and
I thought all was ok. I did notice that the Drivers side control
for the window no longer worked but stupidily instead of taking it
back I thought I can live with that.

Straight away I noticed mybattery was going completely flat after
24-26 hours of non activity I replaced the battery and same thing
hapening, so figured must be something to do with the new mech,
went to take my car backand the Garage had gone out of business.
:(
So basically every weekend I have to either disconect my battery
or charge it up as you can imagine its a bit of a pain

Now I believe this is all linked to the new mech not being wired
properly - reason being is the Passenger window ALWAYS has power going
to it, if the ignition is on or off it works, also I know sometimes
the window will work a few minutes after you've stoped but we are
talking hours I could leave the car for two hours or more come back
and the window will go up or down no problem (As mentioned before
it only works on the button on the door- the drivers side will operate
all the windows bar this one- nothing happens when I press the button for the
passenger):(

The only real experience Ive had with cars is installing radios and
know that there are usually two powers one constant for presets and
clock etc and one for when the ignition is on- So I was thinking maybe
this is similar???? Hes hooked it up to constant instead of ignition:confused:
So I figure this is what is causing the battery to drain.

I took the door panel off after watching a helpful
video but everything seemed to be in place there wasnt any spare wires
hanging about? and the conection seemed to only go in one way?

So I realy need your guys help I went to another garage and the guy
said probobly a faulty motor we can get you a new one?

So this is a big please to all you out there for some help? Should
I get a new motor? or is there a wiring issue? Or something else and Im
barking up the wrong tree ?Anyone come across this before?

Any help would be realy apreciated as realy dont want to spend more cash
on a new motor If I can help it- Again If this is covered somewhere
else in the forum I do appologise please point me in the right Direction
and Il go from there

Thanks Mathew

You need to scan it with VCDS (VAG-COM), and post the codes.

VCDS-Lite will scan all your scannable modules and perform most tests and procedures.
You can buy VCDS (VAG COM) from Ross Tech only, but:

You can buy a VAG scan cable for VW/Audi on eBay for about $10 - $20.
(This connects to the OBDII Port in the car, and to a PC or Laptop Etc.)
And Download the VCDS-Lite, free software (or registered software for $99). From:

Ross-Tech: VCDS-Lite
Ross Tech also supply an interface cable with full version of VCDS from $249.00.

Or someone might be willing to scan it for you.
Just enter your zip code and it should give you the closest person and their contact information.
