hey to all, have a 2008 Passat Lux with 17 inch rims,235-45-17 tires..... have a chance to pick up some 18 inch rims, has anybody put 18's on ,I totally "get" how to calculate diameter etc. but am concerned with the 18's It will be a wider rim so will have to go with maybe a 245 or 255 ,question is ,is there anybody out there that has 18's on and what size tire are they running? saving me a lot of grief and time, thanks in advance,Chief
What kind of driving do you do? What are your goals? Are you only concerned with appearance? Are they for summer tires or do you intend to put all seasons on them. How much extra weight will the new wheels and tires add? The downside of 18" wheels outweigh the benefits in my opinion. If it were my wagon I would spend the money on 225.50.17s Pilot Sports which would provide good grip and more comfort.
Hey GB, have had Passats (7)for 20+ years and currently have two, one is my DD,and surf wagon, 2001 B5.5 1.8T, which I really make an effort to do preventive maintenance on, the other is my '08 B6 Lux Sedan which is my weekend warrior, I got it for almost nothing and pretty sure I got it back up to par,but always trying to improve. Use it while working on the 01 also, my major driving with both is interstate (hillbilly autobahn), 60 miles each way to work. I am tricking out the 08 so appearance .....well .......appreciated, if I get the 18's they would be for summer, like my wagon have two sets, for the wagon got 15's with General...Altimax? all weathers which have been amazing, was speculative of them at first....but have really performed ,for a softer compound really have not worn anywhere to Michelins which categorically are soft and great in snow.....hey thanks very much for the reply....not much "traffic" on this specific topic, regards ,Chief
Hello cchief,
Did you buy the wheels? I neglected to mention offset before. Make sure the offset will work with new larger tires, ie they don't rub against the suspension. Generally speaking it's best to avoid spacers in the front, so if the offset of the new wheels is higher (eg 50 instead of 45) you may rub. Let us know how they work out.
Was this resolved?
I'm considering buy a set of VW rims with 255/45/18 at ET45 to replace my 19" rims (too easily damaged by kerbs due to thin tires)
I'd like to know if these would fit on a B6 with no problems (3.2 4motion if it makes a difference - standard suspension)
