Hello. I'm very new to this forum (3rd post) and I apologize for making another thread about the P0011 code, but mine is doing something odd.

I have a 2003 Passat W8 which is giving me a few codes. First and foremost it is the P0011 code. Second is the thermostat (or so I was told), but I'm not sure what the exact code is. The W8 belongs to my wife and she complained about it running rough. After reading up on the P0011 code I had the cam shaft adjuster solenoids cleaned as described in many threads all over the internet. The engine was extremely clean on the inside though. There was no sign of any debris in the oil channels and the solenoids where happily clicking away as they were being exercised.

After all was put back together the W8 ran great (for a few days), but I noticed a clicking noise while the fan was running after shutting the engine off. It sounded as if something was hanging inside the fan. The technician didn't find anything hanging in the fans and decided to let it heat up to hear the noise. Of course it didn't decide to make the noise while it was sitting there, but I noticed something else. The temperature gauge stayed planted to the left and the fans were running full speed. So, we checked that code... thermostat (yeah $500.00 repair coming up, lol).

After it sat and ran for that long it still ran great. As soon as I drove it home it started to run rough again and threw another code. The fans were obviously still running at high speed and I could hear that ticking noise coming from the fans again (of course).

So, after a few days I was able to have the technicians look at the codes again (yesterday). P0011 and thermostat. He reset the codes and it has been running like nothing ever happened last night and this morning.

I am thoroughly confused with this. I read a suggestion elsewhere to replace the fuel pump relay. I'm thinking of ordering this first, replacing it before even considering replacing the thermostat. Do any of you have any suggestions as to why it's running perfectly smooth after a reset even though it threw a code and ran awful for almost a week? It makes no sense to me. Could the thermostat issue be related to the P0011 code and running rough?

Thank you all for having me here. Any help guiding me in the right direction is greatly appreciated. :)

Thank you Tomvw. I apologize I don't have all the actual codes available at this time.

I was actually on that site when I read about the fuel pump relay. I attempted to Google "TPL 2010059(RoW)", but was unable to find an explanation for what is described as TPL 2010059(RoW) that actually need checked. I probably sound completely ignorant asking if someone can tell me what I'm looking for. (mainly because I am)

Thank you for your help.

By the way, it's still running fine today, but I know that can change at any given moment.
