Hello everyone. Can anyone help explain what the catalytic converter does and where it’s located in B5.5. I have a B5.5 V6 4motion. The sound is pretty bad and I’m guessing the net or the cat is removed. What can I do to reduce the sound

It's probably the flex pipe that's rusted out. If the pipes are in good shape, a new flex can be welded in. On the B5.5 4Mo, there are 2 sets of cats. One set is just behind the engine and the other set is at the sides of the trans.

Why did vw not make the exhaust 100% bolt on.... Arg.
