I also disliked the later AWM coolant flanges. I got decent at doing them, but I was always scratched up too.

Just as an update - I didn't have time to finish the job. It was time to load the TDI Touareg and head to the Florida place. Been down here for about a week and plan to return to the Passat and Iowa in May"ish". I'll update when I get back or bite the bullet and let someone that knows what they are doing to finish the job. I'm still waiting for the scabs on the back of my hands/arms to heal....part of old age?

I have been surprised at how many ID4 VW's I've seen down here......Florida must have some kind of program going on for EV's.

;-) nice reading. Definitely good ideas on sawing off the metal screws coming off of the firewall, located close to the coolant flange...ask me how I know...

Anyhow, I humbly believe the coolant flange design, held on by two screws, works ok with metal flanges (cast aluminum or stronger should work well...no need for extra money being spent)...However, something tells me the bean counters f...up the engineers design intent...again...(I'm an engineer, if you can't tell already)...I sincerely doubt that an engineer would have designed such a critical plastic part like that...a third screw would have yielded much better results at about the same cost...

Summarizing...Done the metal flange...works well...would recommend...
