Audio system upgrade

I have a 2015 Passat with the Premium VIII audio and would like to upgrade to either the RNS 315 Audio and navigation or the RNS 510 model. Can I also install a non VW radio while still maintaining steering wheel controls? I asked the service department at the VW dealer and he said it can’t be done. Is it possible to do an upgrade or is he not willing to do it?

If you have the factory back up camera you will need a converter.
