UPDATE: RESULTS from my latest event at this link. I am the only passat listed-
http://soloatlanta.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1846

www.soloatlanta.com is the home page for Atlanta area SCCA. The first local event is March 19th at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. I hope i won't be the only Passat there all year again.I guess all the other passat owners in town are just too scared:nervous: i will beat them silly.:poke:

We've got an event here on Sunday. Too bad the course is fairly short with lap times between 30 and 40 seconds. It'll probably rain so that should make things interesting. :) Maybe the woman will let me run two events this month so I can see what a larger course is like? :D Have you moved out of G Stock yet?

I ran Time Only last season after my two novice races were done.My car is chipped so stock class is out, putting me straight into street modified. I have a stock suspension with 113,000 miles on it, stock steelies with stock Continental eco-squealers on them, so there was no point in trying to actually compete against anybody but myself. This season i think due to rule changes( I will have to check) the chip might only class me as street prepared, and i do plan on new shocks and springs this spring, as well as ultra-high performance street tires (leaning toward BFGoodrich g-force traction vs Falken Azenis RT615- both cheap and fairly well performing).

Wouldn't you be in STX with a chip? What wheels are you putting those tires on? Nice choices on the tires by the way. The OEM Conti blow. I would have gone with Azenis when I was shopping for tires but they get slippery easily with heat so I stuck to Kumho MXs. I didn't want to worry so much about heat with our heavy cars although the stiffer walls on the 615s would be nice change of pace. :p

I showed a few arrogant drivers and spectators what a Passat can do by taking first in STS Sunday. ;) GO PASSATS!!!

what does it take to get involved? I'd love to take your t-reg stock suspension and chippedness vs my V6 can't mod at all with neuspeed/bilsteins and pilot exalto pe2 tires. I hear you're quick

All you have to do is register online( in novice class) and show up. The cost is $35 per event and it takes about 4 hours. 1/3 of that is driving (four approx 60 second runs), 1/3 working the course, and 1/3 getting signed in, walking the course, tech inspection, drivers meeting, etc.If you register and don't show up, thats o.k. because it will cost you nothing. If you join SCCA on the day you first race for $75, that race is free, and all following events are $25. Check out the links on the SCCA website i posted at the top for all the info you will need, especially those with "novice" in the title.

By the next time i race, my T-reg suspension should be gone (I just got bilstein sports through a group buy-$378 shipped- i have to find time to put them on with my neuspeed sport springs:cool: ) I will likely still be sporting suckshit stock conti's(possibly stock michelins), although at least they will be on alloy wheels instead of steelies. As to how quick i am, i gotta say not very, but i have alot of fun trying.

You should come down one Sunday for one of our events. The course is typically 50 or 60 to 70 seconds depending on the course layout that day and how fast you are. Entry is $25 with SCCA card, $35 without. You just have to preregister online, and then pay on the day of the race only if you decide to show up.

Hmmm... I am trying to get some parts from passatpimpin and he's in ATL.

Me: "Honey, I'm going to Atlanta to pick up those parts I reserved."
Her: "So why are you bring your extra set of wheels?"
Me:   :D

You (before the trip):"I'm trading him my wheels and tires for parts, so i can save some money"

you (after the trip):"He decided he didn't like the wheels once he saw them in person, and decided against taking them in trade"

Hey guys I live in Lawrenceville and own a 2000 A4. I am looking to sign up for one of these events but need to figure out which event will I go with. I know there is a Porsche club, BMW club, and SCCA events going on at the Gwinnett Fairgrounds so what is the best for me, SCCA? mfitz, I know you have posted up prices but I'm still kind of confused. What is the most cost effective package considering that I might not show up to race on every event? I'm still a student and the budget still controls my life lol and the car is also a daily driver. Also soloatlanta.com website shows that the registration for gwinnett fairgrounds events are closed.

I live like 4 minutes from the fairgrounds and have visited on several occassions.

EDIT: Yes, so I assume I would be registering for time-only at only gwinnett fairgrounds. Is it better for me to sign up and register with SCCA or just pay $35 for each event?

it depends on how many events you plan on running. If you run 4 events as a non-member, that would cost you $140($35 per event), if you sign up for SCCA, four events would cost $150($75 for membership and first race free, $25 each for next three events), and the break-even point is 5 events at $175 either way (in which case you might as well get the SCCA membership)

SCCA race registration opens for each event about 1-2 weeks prior to the event. You must register online by noon on the Saturday before the event(they are all on Sundays), but you only have to pay for it if you show up.You can enter in the Novice class for two races, then as "time only" or in G-Stock, or STS, or SM depending on what mods you have done to your A4. I don't know anything about how or when the porsche or bmw club events are run.

UPDATE!!!!!! Registration is open for the March 19th SCCA autocross at gwinnett fairgrounds. Register as a novice if this is your first or second event. If not a novice, you only have to register once for the whole season and keep the same number for the year (if you stay in one class). I am number "98 DSP", the fastest passat in Georgia.

Whats the difference between "Test and Tune" on the 18th and "Points Event" on the 19th? I am going to Savannah for St. Patty's and can make sunday but not saturday. As a novice should I go to the Test and Tune sessions first or does it matter?

Test and Tune is just an event for people to (mostly) get alot of runs in for extra seat time or (a few people) to try different set-ups on their cars. The best way to make your car faster is to be a better more experienced driver. In a normal event like on Sunday, you are only allowed four runs, where as on the test and tune day, you might make up to 25.They limit the number of participants to 50, first come, first serve at online registration, with SCCA members getting first dibs. They show you your times as you finish each run, but they don't keep them or post them. There is no other way to get so much seat time to work on improving your skills. I would love to go, but soccer season just started and my boys have three games spread throughout that saturday.

So while test and tune might help you as a novice, it is certainly not necessary, and I am not even sure if they would allow a pure novice to do it. Sunday would be just fine. Make sure you register online before 10 am saturday the 18th.
