Good quality brake fluid available anywhere: Castrol LMA

Use only VW fluid in your auto tranny - get from dealer or order from ECS, parts4vws, etc. It's about $12 a quart! Or if you are willing to accept the responsibility for using a non-spec fluid for your tranny, you could try Redline D4, it's "only" $8/quart.

And here's a good "how-to" post with links to even more "how to": Servicing the Tip ATF & Filter...

Your 99/2000 Passat uses G052162-A2 specification automatic transmission fluid. There's two aftermarket fluids I know which meet this specification: Febi-Bilstein 14738 and Pentosin ATF-1. Some VW owners run Redline D4 and other synthetic AT fluids in their cars, but I've heard a few horror stories about winter performance. ECSTuning, Imparts Online, and Autobahn Fluids offer G052162-A2 transmission fluids on their websites. You might want to get the full transmission kit from ECSTuning which includes the filters, plugs, and gaskets.

I agree with Rusty with the recommendation of Castrol LMA brake-fluid, but if available you might want to consider Ate Type-200 or Super-Blue..
