Well, it took about 20hrs to do, but everything is working perfectly. The car was my brothers 00 A4 and things went pretty smoothly. The hardest part of the install is taking off all of the stock stuff(mainly the lower turbo bracket which we cut off by the way). Other than that, we just took our time and followed the directions and everything went butter smooth. Note, a lift is a huge advantage for this procedure. Oh, another note......the car hauls ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
. We got it right on the first try, only problem on crank up was that one of the injectors was leaking, but that was only because the O-ring apparently hadn't seated itself right, so we just took it off and put it back on, problem solved. So, it looks like this kit can be put on by ordinary people and work perfectly after all. Time to get one on my car

Re: APR stg.3 installed on brothers car.......... (Blade)
Really, you found getting the stock stuff off the hardest part? I had a real problem getting the new manifold/turbo/cat unit on the car. Admittedly, it was a bit easier the last time because I upgraded to the newer bullet style cat. That thing is so much smaller and easier to work with.
Glad it went well for you. If only it had been another Passat...
Re: APR stg.3 installed on brothers car.......... (Blade)
Looking into this same setup. Quick question...how many miles does he have on his car??? I'm a tick over 70,000 and not sure if this is something that I should do to a motor with that many miles....
Any suggestions??? heh heh, other than purchasing a new motor!!!!
Re: APR stg.3 installed on brothers car.......... (TPhalen)
TPhalen.....I am Blade's brother. I would say that your motor is good to go as long has you have taken proper care of it and changed the oil on a regular basis. The 1.8T is fairly bulletproof as long as you keep a good fresh synthetic oil in the system. I prefer Mobil 1, but its up to you.
Electronman......I hear that you may want to buy my injectors, give me a shout on IM if you want (A418t81) to chat some more about them, I'm interested to hear what you have up your sleeve.
As far as the kit, it runs great. Only issue was I forgot to tighten the oil pan plug and it finally worked its way out while I was driving around. Thank goodness I noticed right away and pulled over....oil was still coming out of the pan so I'm safe. Close call for sure though. The car feels GREAT though. Its sooo nice to have power all the way to 7 grand. The banshee howl the turbo makes is unlike anything I've ever heard and could be most likened to an almost "screeching of tires" racket. The car pullls very well at high speeds, the only thing that I need to do is replace the fuel filter as I'm getting a slight amount of surging at high rpms. I'm positive its related to the filter as my car has 36k miles on it and I'm sure its nice and clogged.
Anway, I really, really, really recommend anybody on the fence to go for it. You will never look back, I love my car more than ever now...its absolutely perfect with the stage 3 and I can't imagine running around with that poor excuse for a hair dryer anymore. Best 4k ever spent!
