Alright, I need some help. I picked up a real nice wooden shift knob for my 2004 b5.5 passat. The knob is screw on but the stock setup uses a clip, or a metal ring. I took the clip component out of my stock one, and pretty much destroyed the stock knob. Any ideas on where to go next?

You could go through the trouble of removing the shifter's metal rod, taking it to a machine shop and getting threads machined onto the end of it. That's a little extensive it seems. Maybe getting the shifter assembly from an earlier model (98-99) but that's over complicated too :( unless of course the metal rod from that assembly can go over to yours. Not sure how the assemblies are assembled...

just brainstorming :)

you can do it with a die set by hand, any good shop will have one. No need to remove the shifter rod to do it, but even then seems a little much just to get the knob you want. pic of the shifter rod without the knob? I could tell you for sure.
