Just changed a battery on a B5.5

radio has re-learnt its code from ECU, and is activated. and powered

however........... its seems half dead.

the buttons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 on the front don't work right. well if you press one of the number, the front panel display will go blank and not switch to a channel or play sound.

and the only way to change channels is via the seek arrows.

also starting car, radio will come on with front panel lit, but no display and no station or sound.


any ideas?

It may have just been its time to die. They're getting old, you know....

Could always try disconnecting the battery for a bit, and see if that restores function. Otherwise, new radio time.
Look at it this way: It's a good excuse to upgrade to a modern head unit!

Key off, pull the fuse (#37) for the radio. Wait ten seconds, reinsert fuse, turn key on. Does it work better now?

Sounds like you lost the programming to the buttons (as you would), and just need to set stations to the buttons.
