Another B5.5 is gone...moved on to something else

Well guys, I'm sorry to say it, but my B5.5 is officially gone. It has been a bittersweet relationship...but for the past month, it has been in the shop and I have just had enough. Over the past 6 months, I think I have been to the dealership at least a dozen times for some problem or another. It got so bad that towards the end, one of the salesguys saw me so often that he asked me if I had punched in yet. Its not like my Passat is that old either, when I traded it in today, it had 36k miles on it. I was unfortunately enough to get the 2001.5 model, which came with only 24/month-24k mile bumper to bumper. Just this year, I have spent a nice chunk of change fixing problem after problem...

I loved the car...it was my first real car that was mine. After throwing a bunch of money in mods for it, the irony of it is my mods did not contribute to most of my problems.

Here she is...one of her last hurrahs...

I have to apologize to everyone who I promised parts to; in the end, I needed to get rid of her quick, so I left most of the mods on the car when I traded her in. I'm going to miss her a lot...

Man I know the feeling. We spent $2500 on pads, rotors, control arm, tie rods, and tire on our first big repair, next time was $1500 on the other control arm, AC, and the WHOLE POWER STEERING RACK. Are you replacing it with a more reliable car?

BTW, sweet Z4 in the background
When my 99 w/ approx 114k started making sounds in the suspension for the 2nd time I decided I never wanted to deal with the 4-link suspension again. Plus, my dad did some pretty good damage to the front end backing into mine.

All in all, it was a fabulous 5+ yrs with my car. It was my first new vehicle, and I'll never forget how good it was.
Here is my "something else"

Any guesses as to what it is?

The gauge cluster looks distinctively Mitsubishi Motors.
I'm going to guess previous generation Eclipse GSX or GS-T. :???:

that looks like a Dodge Neon SRT4 gauge cluster... :(

Yep, found that on an aftermarket site with Eclipse dash and gauge mods. So I'll bet that raneek was right ;)

Haha...so yea...I got an Eclipse GS-T...its a 99 5 speed with only 30.5k miles on it...An old guy used it as his weekend toy, and the car hasn't seen rain or snow. Its not modded (yet), and still has plenty of thread on its original tires. I bought the car for 9500

Bone stock 4g63 motor :D

Mods are already forthcoming...I have a 16g turbo, greddy fmic, ported exhaust manifold, apexi exhaust, and boost controller already coming.

that has potential...

is it AWD...?

looks mint... time for the FMIC already...
I wouldnt say an eclipse is a more reliable car...

Nice car and good luck

if its a GS-T than its not AWD...although mid 13's should be easily achievable with that setup...good choice, if i could find one, i'd definately get it...happy speeding! :D

btw...are you using a boost controller or an AFC??
Yeah, not AWD, those are the GSX's. GST's are GSX's without AWD. Less weight I guess, plus it's cheaper. 210HP stock seems like a great place to be making upgrades from! That'll be a hell of a car. Just don't put our Passat's to TOO much shame.

Those two things are completely different...and I'm going to need both :)

I just ordered a turboxs manual boost controller for the time being. I'm probably going to get an AVC-R or a Greddy Profec B II to control boost later on.

Fuel is going to be controlled by a Walbro 255lph fuel pump along with a super AFC. I'm still debating on whether or not to get injectors and an afpr.

With some dyno tuning, this setup should be good for 13s with a conservative 16 pounds of boost.

I really wanted a GSX, but these cars are so hard to find...especially one with low miles that are bone stock.

As far as reliability goes, sure these cars can be a little quirky...but they are easy to work on and parts are super cheap.

my buddy that has a talon tsi just got a 1st gen GSX for $3000!!! BRAND NEW motor from mitsubishi and totally redone body...his buddy hooked him up like i've never heard of...thats a friggin steal!!

my other buddy has basically the same setup you do but in a TSi....his best time was 13.0 with full interior....i told him to strip the seats and i'm sure that will become a 12.9 minimum but for some reason he don't wanna do it....he's movin to cali soon, so if anyone sees a red tsi with a front-mount and jersey plates...give him a wave on my behalf!
