I'm having a wierd problem with our Passat. It's a '99 wagon 1.8T. When you come up to the car when it's locked, and you hit unlock with the remote, if you open the passenger side rear door, the alarm will go off in about 2 minutes, and all the doors will lock.

This happens on a consitent basis. It's designed to relock if you unlock the doors with the remote, then don't open anything within a specific time period (about 2 minutes). So it's as if one part of the computer thinks the door is closed (and goes to relock), and the other part thinks it's open (sets off the alarm).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

Faulty microswitch in the door most likely. When doors autolock again, the alarm will arm and the motion detector will then set the alarm off.

Yes, it's the microswitch; more specifically, it's a cracked solder joint on the circuit bd in the door latch assembly. See the following link. It's specifically about the driver's door, but much of the info applies to the rear as well (although no need to remove the window glass).
