Well I couldn't find Boris' original thread for his write up on his version of the COAM (Colorado Outlaw Airbox Mod). But there are pictures of it in this thread.

I hope that helps a little. :)
Boris' original post was accidentally deleted by an over-zealous moderator who was "cleaning up." My first-ever CB5 post, wherein I reviewed Boris' mod and "joined the club," was also deleted. IIRC I got a 0.9 sec improvement in my 0-60 times.

I think I was 18 way back when I did my first post. :p

LOL! Remember it? Heck, I've still GOT it in a text file. I guess my subconcious knew that CB5 was going to become a big part of my life, and I've saved it all these years! Shoot, I joined almost two years ago, maybe I'll repost to celebrate!

(Later...) Here 'tis: http://www.clubb5.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=84785
Oh, enough of this sappy reminiscing already

Seriously, would Boris or Rusty or anyone else with this mod care to create a new (preferably with pictures) write up for the Information Forum. I'd bet there are a lot of members interested in this one. For me it's got my 2 favorite factors: 1) cheap; and 2) makes you faster.

Thanks,

Slider.
I'm interested also now that I Chipped and opened up the Exhaust a bit yesterday.

My first post? LOL! That was day one here with The Greek when we opened the doors! I have no idea or recollection of what I wrote way back in '99! :D I once had over 1000 posts, just to get wiped out with a forum dump...more then once! LOL!
I heard if u just drill 10 mm holes all over ur box underneath the filter it acts just as good as a cold air. Called cheesegrating i think. im tryin to start a group buy on a filter if ur interested:

Oh yeah, I remember those days too man! How many times did the apple cart get upset? I would probably have well over 7000 posts by now.

I found ClubB5.com back in August of 1999! And haven't stopped coming back since!! :D :D   :suspicio: :suspicio: :nervous: :weirdo:

And do you remember when VWvortex wasn't too bad of a place and then even their formus got all dumped into one place and it was a total disaster. Mayhem is one word that comes to mind.  :thumbdow: I don't think that place ever recovered to it's former cool self after that.

those were some strange days back then...
Chas...remember our secret way into Vortex :D They got so pissed, that was the last straw....you dont ever fire up a GREEK!!!!

Thus ClubB5 was formed! LOL!
wow, the history that backs up our forum... hehehe, screw those vortex guys, Not all of them but most of them are arses. We got a good group here and im glad. :b5:

Think about what you heard. Then go out to your car and look at the relationship between the airbox and the hot turbo.

You can also look first, then think.
lol, i don't have a turbo Rusty, just a 30 valve
Hey, you have more valves than I do!

Yeah, the context of the airbox mod is definitely hot-turbo-ish.
Rusty, I saw that Pic of your engine compartment when I was trolling the Colorado Club Site yesterday......How about more pics and write ups of your shielding work to date? Looked very interesting in the one pic. Last night when I got home I lifted the hood and man the heat all around the turbo and airbox got me thinking. (and how warm the factory inlet was) But I have to find low cost solutions! :D
Not that much of a hurry. A throw away (with Flash) would work...then have a place like target put them on a CD. Digital Pics! (unless you have a scanner and can do it yourself)
I want a new DigiCam too! Only it will be the new Canon SLR 6.3 Mpix body that I can throw all of my cool Canon EOS lenses and Speedlites onto! Now that would be totally sweet!!! 8) :D I just don't have $1000 just laying around. I spent it all on my wheels, FMIC and headlights.

Oh and Jet, I do remember that secret about the old 'Tex. What a joke that place was. It seemed that everyone hated the B5 Passat because we had such cool cars back then. It was jelousy plain and simple. Now days, everyone has a 1.8T!    We still have cooler cars BTW!
It would be awesome if someone wrote up instructions to go with Boris' original pictures. I've wanted to do the airbox mod for a long time now, and I'm just going to start cutting blind unless someone gives me some help.
