Airbag Fault After 40k Service

my 02 B5.5 went in for regular 40k service at Boston VW on a Friday. Service rep gives me a call telling me that my front outer cv boots need to be replaced, it was late so i scheduled an apointment on the following wednesday and took my car home. I parked the car friday night and it did not move until monday morning when I start up the car and the airbag fault warning comes on.
that wednesday when the car went in for the boots, they said that the side airbag crash sensor was bad and needed to be replaced... i wanted them to take responsibility for the sensor and replace it free of charge but they quoted 150 in parts and 300 in labor. upset, i asked to speak to the manager.
when i spoke to the manager he told me that there was no way they could have affected the sensor during the service work and refused to take responsibility. i insisted but all i could get form him was the fault code and part number for the sensor, both of which mean nothing to me...maybe someone here can enlighten me on how my car can be fine on friday before service and then have the airbag fault come on right after...

i needed to vent...is there anything i can do?

"warning, faulty crash sensor"
of the P0 series. lol

i can honestly say that sucks terribly bad. and that is something that should also take high priority.
go get a second opinion from an indy (if you can) on how that can possibly go bad. if you corner VW, most times they'l finally give in. (such as a couple cases with me and Xyro)
VW wil ltry to lie their way out of any situation. the dealership down near me has absolutely no respect from me. couldn't even properly diagnose a faulty bad cat. o_O

well
no, hold on a sec, i wasn't implying to have it done, but to get a verified reputable opinion of "can this go wrong, from the service last performed?" type of statement in writing.
i would deffinitely have VW do this kind of work over any indy just because of the "shit happens" clause.
(non-indy discriminatory. we are an equal opportunity complainer.)

Bah, I'd trust a specialist VW/Audi shop thats been in business for 30+ years over the stealership, unless you can have the work done free due to thier error. However, I would echo that this is not a shell station garage job.
Also worth doing, find someone with a vag-com and clear the code. If it doesn't come back, you're set anyhow.

The fault light was not on prior to your service visit. Any airbag sensor fault will throw a code and light the light due to safety issues. Very likely they inspected the CV boots and bumped the sensor. They are delicate, especially if they get a little rusty. Can't prove they did it since they only "inspected" the boots, but at your mileage and the fact some big fisted tech had just been rooting around in your wheel well, it seems likely. No warranty on this for your MY and mileage or are you second owner? Also, the labor would be somewhat redundant with the CV boots, wherever you get those done.

Good luck!
