The V6 does not require synthetic, as long as you use a top-quality dino oil and change it frequently. The previous owner and I have always used 10W-30 dino in my Audi, admittedly with the simpler 12-valve (no cam chain tensioners) head.
As for MMO, I thought it was essentially ATF. I do not think I would want to try it in a 1.8T.
