Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows the factory xenon headlights? ie a Germany wiring diagram... I have a So Wird's Gemacht manual but it only shows halogen headlights.

I installed factory HID headlights: brand new Hella assemblies, new bulbs, new ballast, new switch. When I turn on the lights, the passenger side lights off but the driver's side doesn't. After the car is running for a bit, I can get the driver's side to come on too. And yes, I removed the DRL relay. I have 15 amp fuses installed in the low beam positions 20 & 21 as per the Bentley manual.

That being said, I want to look at a no kidding diagram to see if there is a relay, distribution bus, or another harness that I should be using.

I am not interested in info about aftermarket HID conversion kits. Just looking for the factory diagram or if anyone has experienced the same issue and have some useful info.

Thanks,

g

Either the ballast is defective or you need to add a relay to get more power to them. I've had OEM Hella Xenon in my B5 for 8 years and they always light up. I've had 1 blown bulb and 1 blown ballast in that time. Now the chrome and reflectors bowls have faded, so I have to replace them.

I had this problem initially utilizing used parts as well. In the end, everything was replaced with new. Since I live here in balmy ND, when its cold out (relative I know) both lights will spark up then shut off, then after several attempts the lights are on.
I have owned this car since new, no wiring modifications and no other electrical issues. The battery is fairly new as well, and the alternator puts out good power. I was thinking that perhaps the x-relay could be a culprit like in the other VW models, but I don't see the relationship on the Passat wiring diagram. I was also contemplating removing the fog light relay #381 in position 7 next to where the DRL relay was.
