Hello everybody! My wife has a 97 passat vr6 and we love it! The only problem at this point is the ac, or the lack there of. I decided to recharge it, but noticed something strange...

The pressure reads between 17 and 26 psi, and as it rises to 26 it drops down again. The longer I charge it, it still does the same thing.

I am charging it through the access port on the larger diameter tube. I did notice the linger I charge it, the smaller diameter tube starts to have condensation on the tubing, but not on the larger one.

Any thoughts on what may be happening?

Condensation on the smaller tube occurs because the flashing (phase change from liquid to gas) of R134 occurs very close to where the smaller line goes through the firewall.

If you've had these unexplained pressure changes happen over two cans, I'd say you have a leak and it's probably time for a trip to Harbor Freight for that "kit" of Viton O-rings in a large blue box. That box has just about every size you could imagine.
