So my son has a 2003 Passat 1.8 turbo with 8 codes and no clue where to start, any help out there . thanks

P0301 cylinder 1 misfire
P0302 cylinder 2 misfire
Po303 cylinder 3 misfire
P0304 cylinder 4 misfire

P0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

P0507 idle air control system rpm higher than expected

P0107 manifold absolute pressure/Barometric pressure circuit low

P0171 system too lean (bank 1)

All the codes, together, are caused by some un-metered air getting into the engine. It's something past the throttle body(engine side) because of P0507. Spray some carb cleaner around the intake and see if you get any change in idle. Or listening for something hissing... If the previous 2 tests are not going to take you anywhere, it's probably the PCV. Squeeze the hose that comes out of the intake and goes under the intake. Faulty or old coil packs can also cause misfire. VW had a recall for coil packs so it may not be a bad idea to check them too.
As gigi said, misfire codes with the other codes points to air leaks. Coils in this case are much less likely. Faulty coils will basically make it fall flat on its face.
