Mine has 558. It is an EU spec. Passat 1.8t. I think the EU Passat has 558 and US Passat has 557. But not 100% sure.

well I'm looking at an ecu with a neuspeed program from an a4 non-dbw that has the serial 8D0 907 557 "M". I checked my ecu 99 non-dbw b5 last night but it was dark and I didn't write it down  but I think I have a 557 "N"....will check tonight. but if it is an "N" are these interchangeable?

thanks for the help folks! :D

Ben

edit to add"non" in front of dbw :D

These ECUs were used on the earlier non-DBW Passats with AEB engines. For the US market, I believe that 8D0907557T and 8D0907557M were used while elsewhere in the world, Singapore included, it was 8D0907557P. This was superceded by 8D0907558E from September 1998 for the 1999 model year. Not sure if there ever was a 558 equivalent for the US market but the differences related to emissions standards. As the 557 ECUs were in use since the Audi A4 was first introduced in 1994, these satisfied the EURO2 emissions standards of the time. The 558 ECU applied in 1998 for the 1999 model year met the more stringent EURO3 standard. Today, it's the EURO4 standard.

Physically, the US versions used an oblong FLASH chip while the Euro/ROW versions used a 44-pin square EPROM chip.

I have a 1999 AEB EU Passat.My ecu number is 8D0 907 558 E. Will the ECU with a code 8D0 907 557 P work on my car?
Does it matter if its manual or tip?

they should be fine - I called Neuspeed to check on similar #'s and they said it was ok. I suggest you call/email them as well.

The P and N are interchangeable. M is not. In other words if you have P you can put N in your car and vice versa, OTOH if you have M (very early 98 cars with green dash lights) you can only substitute another M.

Boris,

what can you tell me about the 8D0 907 557 P versus 8D0 907 558 E? one is in Europe, the other is US, but are they interchangeable?

anyone know this? Anyone here have a Euro model willing to try a US ECU???

:poke:
