I have a 2015 Passat sport with radio issues. When I bought the car I had the dealer install a factory remote starter. The blue tooth stopped working after that so they took about a month to replace the bluetooth module, remote starter and radio. Finally an enginer from VW figured out the issue. Fast foward 13 months and the radio turns off and on on its own. I pulled the radio and noticed the radio had a remanufactured sticker on it. I checked the fuse on the back of the radio and it appears fine. Any suggestions to what is causing this issue? Kinda pissed the dealer installed a used radio. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I can relate to your frustration. I have a 2014 Passat SEL v6 aka Premium in which the RNS 510 NAV unit went south. Dealer said "sorry we cant warranty it, you are on your own. 24 months later the unit rebooted on its own, the next day it stopped working. all the lights ( at night) would flash on and off. I parted with 800 dollars on eBay, replaced the unit myself, thought I had the seller code it properly ( back up cam, Fender audio, etc) and come to find out I still have bluetooth not working ( seperate module) which I replaced (from eBay) and wa-la! SAME issue - no bluetooth, thus I am VCDS Ross-tech shopping now. Ive seen eBay sellers "rent for 15/week with 270 dollars collateral, but after reading your post I realize that my remote start key fob isnt working, blue tooth swap didnt do what I had hoped, thus I am thinking I am likely going to keep my money and accept good things dont last forever. BUT the radio not working.....that was one I had bite the bullet and replace. (no backup cam, no audio, no NAV). I feel the radio is doing a warm reboot. In my case the internals (hard drive, motherboard, etc.) was faulty, even had VW dealership call it an "internal fault we cant fix/warranty). Read many posts on faulty RNS 510 and many dealerships not covering. I did attempt to hard boot my unit several times, but no change (thus the cost of replacement). 1200 + at dealership, $800 on eBay. Yours may be less hopefully if that is the route you are left with.

2015 Passat. FENDER AUDIO, NAV and Backup Camera. Seemed to always have radio issues. Taking a long time to boot up etc. I spoke to the dealership, and they said its cold and takes a minute to warm up, but somedays when its cold it would start up right away. No out of 10 starts, it only works maybe 2 times. The FENDER and VW LOGO just come up, then it seems to try and reset and same issue, over and over and over again. Dealership in Canada quoted $3300.00 for a replacement! How is this fair?

Did you ever find a solution or repair for your issues???
Hi DP14.
I am only an enthusiast, but I've done a lot of research on this topic and experimented with mixed results. In the end I learned the solution is unique to how the car is wired.
I own a US 2014 Wolfsburg 1.8T which came with the RCD310 with SAT. This is not a touchscreen, and does not have a back up camera. The car only has the square radio wiring harness, and was missing the second 26 pin rectangular harness.

First attempt back in 2016, I bought a used RNS315 off ebay with the security code and GPS cable. In addition, I bought a used trunk lid switch/camera from ebay (which was pulled from a USA Passat), and found the 26 pin cable. After a lot of experimenting, I was able to get the backup camera to work. But my radio signal was terrible. A VAG scan shows the diversity antenna array amplifier was not getting power which I assume is because the wiring harness is wired differently. I put a generic antenna booster which improved the signal slightly. GPS worked good, and I was still able to use the midi interface in the armrest to connect my phone for music. Lived with this for a year.

Next attempt, I sold the RNS315 and found a used RNS510 (with the security code) because it has a bigger screen. Plug and play with the same radio signal issue. Only the radio was slowww. I lived with this until my son came home with a new GLI in late 2017. That car has apple carplay, and after using it I had to upgrade my Passat again.

Late 2017 I sold the RNS510 and purchased RCD330 from Aliexpress. Two main RCD330 models at the time were Desay or NoName. Main difference is NoName could be upgraded to Android Auto. I use an iphone and the Desay was cheaper, so I went with that since it came with carplay. The RCD330 only has a connection for the square wire harness. So I was unable to use the 26 pin cable going to the camera in the trunk, and could not use the trunk lid switch/camera because of the way it is wired. I found a trunk switch on Amazon that accept a RCA cable output from the RCD330 (Amazon.com: Auto Wayfeng WF HD Car Runk Handle Parking Rearview Backup camera Case For Audi / VW / Volkswagen / Passat /Tiguan /Golf /Touran /Jetta /Sharan /Touareg 2011-2016 : Electronics), but I could not get it to work. End result: I had carplay, I still had radio signal issues, no backup camera, and loss use of the midi-aux inteface in the armrest. Lived with this for a while.

In 2018 I experimented with installing a auto dimming mirror with a monitor, to see if I can get the camera to work with the mirror instead of the radio. (This is the mirror, I needed bracket # 20 63.75US $ 38% OFF|Special Bracket HD 800*480 4.3 TFT LCD Car Parking Windscreen Rear View Rearview Internal Mirror Monitor For VW Kia Hyundai|car view|mirror viewrear car mirror - AliExpress). After installing the camera still did not work. I tried different things to no avail.

In 2019 I figured out the camera issue. I was using the reverse light wire to power the camera in the trunk area, and determined that is not enough power. So I put the reverse light wire on a relay, and brought a fresh +12v wire from the fuse box to the relay, and finally got the camera to work. But the way I wired it, the camera cuts out immediately after shifting out of reverse. Basically, there is no delay to keep the camera on for a brief time after shifting into drive. The camera works, but I learned that the camera I purchased was not a good model. The video resolution was lower than the previous camera, and the angle was only 125' and was angled lower. This is where I am today: Carplay, with so-so radio reception, auto-dimming mirror with backup camera monitor with a low and narrow view of what is behind.

I might upgrade the backup camera to one with a wider view and better resolution. Overall I am OK with how everything turned out, except the radio signal. That still bugs me.

I bought one but can't get the sound to work. Is there some kind of adapter or trick to this?
