Hi. I have a 09 Passat and the head unit does not power off with the vehicle. Which causes it to drain battery overnight. My fiancé was told that it’s the cpu. Not the actual head unit itself that’s malfunctioning. Has anyone ever had this issue , or any ideas of trouble shooting a little more. I was out of town and unavailable when this issue took place so I haven’t seen it first hand nor was I there when she took it to the shop

So check the ground points for the head unit. If it is after market and has an amp, make sure the amp’s ground is good. There is a wire in the ignition responsible for telling systems that the key is in the off position. If that gets compromised, the head unit will stay on. I don’t have schematics for your car. Perhaps someone does and they can provide you with what you need to check it.
