My 2003 Passat V6 over-heats when in stalled traffic with the A/C turned ON. The secondary small fan has no power. My independent mechanic has checked the fuses and replaced the fan control relay, but still no power. What next?

The auxiliary coolant (radiator) fan is controlled differently depending on the engine.

The 1.8T uses two relays under the dash.

The V6 uses a fan control module, which is under the hood on the left frame rail. It depends on two fuses:
> The 40 amp fan motor fuse on the aux relay panel
> The 5 amp control power fuse, which I think is also on the aux relay panel.

EDIT: The fan control module also powers and controls the afterrun coolant pump (only present in the V6, hence the difference). I think it's powered from the 5A fuse, so a failed afterrun coolant pump could blow the control fuse and thus disable the aux coolant fan.

In all cases, the fuses are not in the main fuse panel.
