Hello fellow Passat owners.

2002 VW Passat with 2.8l v6 and a 5 speed manual tranny. 270000km

How does one tell if the engine and tranny mounts need replacing?

The engine does seem to shake fairly easy. Even when the hood is raised, when it tops out the hood shock, that is enough force for the engine to shake.
When driving, I can hear a clunk, thought maybe that was my poor clutch work at this point.

Many Thanks
Paul

If the car has 270,000km (162,000 miles) and the mounts are original, they need replacing. If you elect to delay replacing engine mounts for 6-12 months, you can count on also needing to replace one or both CV axles as the excess engine movement will wear the inner CVs out that much faster.

With that mileage replace them all plus the snub or you might be looking at having to replace the downpipe??? (on the exhaust)

Done. All parts ordered.
2 engine mounts
1 isolator I'm hoping that's the snub.
2 tranny mounts.

Should be here in a few days.

Ok, so all the mounts have arrived.

I don't suppose anyone has a good video of the most efficient way to replace all the mounts.
I had found one before, but it was moved or deleted..
