Well I'm having what I believe is a timing issue on my car. My dad was using my car and the radiator busted which then ripped a hole in the radiator then lost all the antifreeze but he kept still driving it unaware of the problem until last minute which ended up blowing the head gasket. As of yesterday I got the new head and head gasket installed along with a new timing belt kit with the metal impeller water pump not that plastic shit. Now to the problem. The problem I'm having is the car will not start until the second to fourth attempt. Once it starts it run with no problem beside throwing a p0341 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance. I never had this code before until I got the car back together. I thought maybe the Camshaft sensor was going out so I robbed one off of my other passat and it's still throwing that code. I believe it's timing related but my problem is where in the hell is the crankshaft timing mark I found it on the harmonic balancer but I can't find it anywhere on the engine.

Pull the valve cover. Both marks are at the back of the head.

The mark is on the metal cover of the lower part of the timing belt. You put the timing belt on the lower sprocket and the metal cover that goes overtop has the mark which lines up with the notch on the crank pulley.

Sounds like the timing might be off a tooth, remember the cam shaft on the one side is sort of offset and won't line up perfectly, as long as the 16 roller spacing is correct.

You must have both the lower timing belt cover and the harmonic balancer on the engine to set the crankshaft at TDC.

Take a rag and clean the oil mist and other dirt off the lower timing belt cover. The HB has a notch, while the TB cover has a faint "V" at roughly the 1:30 or 2:00 o'clock position.

After you align those two marks, look up at the timing mark on your cam pulley...it'll be within a "skoosh" of lining up with the mark on the cylinder head. If it's a tooth or so off, position the cam pulley just below (cam slightly advanced - say 1/2 a tooth on the belt) the mark on the head when releasing the tensioner pin. That way as the belt ages (stretches), your camshaft timing will be correct...versus starting out OK, the getting more and more retarded (which tends to kill low-end acceleration).

You should NOT drive or even crank it until you are sure the timing is correct.
It is likely that you are very close to bending valves, be very careful and get the timing right. (Both chain and belt)

It is very important that the timing be set to specs.
Note that if the timing is out a certain amount the pistons might not hit the valves when turning by hand, but hit when the revs are high enough for the VVT to activate.

That looks like 14 links to me. The notches should line up with the CCT fully extended. It looks fully compressed in that pic.

Yeah you actually did count 14 I marked it wrong when editing it on my phone and the tensioner was actually all the way out itsome the angle of the picture. But I jump the chain up and tooth and that fixed my problem. No more cel and hard start. I also wanna thank all of you for taking your time and helping me out with this problem.
