I bought a key and remote (key cut). Got the remote to work.
Key also seems to work (opens doors, starts car), but the key symbol in the cluster is blinking.
Does it mean the KEY is not matched to car (but the remote is, since it works)?
But the key starts the car (and unlocks/locks door).

What procedure if any do I need to do to stop the blinking key light on the new key?

I have VAGcom (if VAGcom is needed).

If you are the original owner of the car, there may be an SKC tag in the owners manual. This will allow you to program the fob to the immobilizer. The unlock module and the immobilizer are two different entities. Otherwise, it is off to the dealership.

It's pretty unusual that the car will remain running if started with an un-matched key. Normally, they'll shut off after a minute or so. Sure you don't have another, working key in your pocket? Also, I'm pretty sure they'd stopped including the little black SKC tag by 2002. Dealer programming will be required.
