A set of Depo projectors along with an HID kit will keep you happy. Then add Laminex to keep them pretty.

Update 11pm....Do not buy these knock offs they are junk, just fitted my stock headlamps back on tonight....the new ones have poor projection lighting, and limited adjustment...now what????
As you've found, virtually all the aftermarket headlights are junk. The Depo brand, while still notably inferior to the originals, are at least acceptable. When I needed replacements for my B5, I found headlights from Hella, the OEM manufacturer. Exactly the same as the originals, including the built-in foglight function. Much cheaper than VW's price (but still more than Depo).

Not sure why you're not at least trying to buff them out first.
I buffed the shit outa them...before i got the replacements....after putting stock ones back last night, i used 400 paper today and buffed the hell again......lot better but they still look faded...i will leave it at that now...i can send the new ones back/free postage... for full refund, thanks for the comments..

If you buff after using a 400 grit sandpaper, you will have poor results. Wet/dry sandpaper will work better, but you need to step up (400, 800, 1500, 3000). Kits, like 3m may have a bit different pads than that, but essentially that's how it should be done. If they are really bad, it will just take longer, but eventually they should be crystal clear.

If they do polish out, seal them with Laminex and never polish them again. I've got it on all 3 cars.

I have not seen a VW headlight with a lens that could not be polished to look like new.
I suggest you get a 3M or similar kit and have better lights than those replacements.
What he said! I have the exact same model/year and my headlights were BAD. Could barely see the road with high beams on! I bought the 3M kit and in about an hour or so, had finished all steps as per directions, and they looked like new! I was shocked to say the least. I never thought they would ever look like new again, but I was pleasantly surprised. The kit is cheap compared to new headlights. Your choice, but the kit works! Can't speak for any other renewal kits or liquids, but the 3M kit works. Just be sure to tape well around headlights if doing it while still installed so as to not sand off any painted body parts. Good luck!
